Research Facilities

Thornhill’s ICT and Research Facilities are second to none. We have a state-of-the-art double-storey Resource Centre in which the bottom storey is the Library and the top storey is dedicated to ICT.

We have two computer suites running Apple MacMini’s and eMac machines (33 in each room) with an interactive board in each. A central Apple X-Serve controls these machines with each child and member of staff having an account on the server. We have fast wireless and ADSL Internet links allowing us to conduct whole class research and learning on the Internet.

In addition to the computer hardware we have numerous digital cameras, digital camcorders, scanners and Apple’s highly flexible and creative iLife suite. This allows us to create true multimedia presentations.

As part of the ICT facilities we have an Audio Visual Room on the top storey, which is equipped with a multimedia projector, interactive white board, and surround-sound system which are linked to the main academic network, for interactive whole-class lessons and Satellite Television and a DVD and video player for educational video programmes.

The library has a huge open plan floor space and has two main areas of Fiction and Non-Fiction. These spaces are used for research, library skills and for simple reading for enjoyment. There is also an excellently stocked Teacher’s Resource Area helping teachers plan, resource and deliver Thornhill’s unique curriculum.

The Library and the ICT facilities allow us to have a very flexible approach to information research, manipulation and presentation. In short it has revolutionised our teaching in so many ways.
