Sports Facilities

We have a large field that we use for a number of sports: cricket in the first term (summer), soccer and athletics in the second term (winter) and softball in the third term (summer once again!)

The centre of the field has an all-weather astro-turf wicket as do all pitches in Botswana due to the harsh summer conditions.

At the far end of the field are two cricket nets which are used in conjunction with the school’s bowling machine to sharpen up our teams.

We also have three tennis courts which also double up as netball courts in the winter. Along with these we have a basketball court. Both of these areas double as all-weather areas for PE when the weather is not good.

We have two swimming pools at Thornhill. The first pool known as the ‘Mummy Pool’ is about half the size of the biggest pool and goes from very shallow to just about out of depth for the average Reception child. This is where most of our children learn to swim and gain confidence in and under the water.

The second pool is our 25m heated pool and is known as the ‘Daddy Pool’. This where the older children have their lessons and where the various swimming galas are held. This goes from just over a metre at the shalloe end to about 1.6m at the deep end.
