Information

Our main focus on returning, is to follow the Government COVID-19 requirements, which are a prerequisite for schools to open for Term 2.

The prerequisites are as follows:

  1. Social distancing

  2. Wearing of masks

  3. Hand and shoe hygiene

  4. Temperature recording and monitoring

  5. Cleaning of venues

  6. Keeping of registers

  7. SHE Officers

Please note, no parents will be allowed beyond the control points at drop off (morning), or on collection at the end of the day. Parents will not be able to accompany their children to the respective classroom for the foreseeable future.

While you are allowed to drop off in the morning at any of the entry points, you must collect your child from the correct collection gate as stipulated below. Please ensure you adhere to this, as no parents/guardians or drivers, will be allowed access into the school for the purposes of collecting children.

Our proposed operational protocols will be as follows:

  • Children and staff temperatures will be screened on arrival at school at these respective entry points:

    • Standard 5 Drop Off Gate (no parents allowed beyond the temperature control point).

    • Reception Pedestrian Gate (no parents allowed beyond the temperature control point).

    • Field Drop Off Gate (no parents allowed beyond the temperature control point).

    • Administration Block (staff only).

  • Children must be dropped off or escorted to any of the designated gates and proceed to the temperature screening and sanitization check points, as described above. Staff will be actively involved to monitor and ensure proper procedures take place.

  • Children will sanitize their hands and walk through a foot bath at these check points and proceed directly to the classroom once their temperature has been screened.

  • An isolation room will be made available for any child who does not meet the temperature requirement. A second temperature will be taken and if the child still does not meet the requirement you will be contacted to come and collect your child.

  • Those who complete and meet the screening process at the gate, will go straight to their classroom. On arrival at the classroom, the teacher will take another temperature screening and record it. A register of all the temperatures will be kept and submitted to the Headteacher.

  • Children will then remain inside the classroom until the commencement of the school day.

  • Teaching staff will ensure social distancing and take the daily register.

  • The timetable will be adjusted to reduce the movement and congestion of children.

  • The classrooms will be arranged to support social distancing and floor markings for desks will be evident.

  • There will be no afternoon activities during Term 2, or unless the school states otherwise.

  • The tuck shop will be closed until further notice.

  • A SHE officer has been appointed and a COVID-19 committee has been put in place.

  • Sick children and staff must stay home.

I trust that we can count on your full support during these ‘exceptional times’ as we work tirelessly together to ensure the safety of our Thornhill community. Together, and only together, we will be able to beat this.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Thornhill Primary School website, filled with information which, we hope, will attract your interest and serve to give a sense of the rich flavour of life at our school.
