Thornhill Life Skills

Life Skills is an integral part of the Thornhill syllabus. In the Foundation department Life Skills is an informal part of all the class teachers and subject teachers curriculums. A more formal Thornhill Life Skills Programme is introduced from Standard 3. This programme has been developed from Programmes of Study followed in South Africa, the United Kingdom and Botswana.

Life Skills includes the development of personal, social, spiritual and emotional growth fundamental to empowering children with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives in the community. It aims to help the children understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

Life Skills equips the children with the knowledge, understanding and skills to play an active part in society as informed and critical citizens who are socially and morally responsible. It actively promotes the values of truth, justice, respect for all and care of the environment.

Life Skills promotes the achievement of individual learners’ potential by strengthening and integrating all assets to develop an understanding of the integrated nature of the whole person as a balanced individual. It places specific emphasis on pupils valuing themselves and others, the celebration of diversity in society through understanding similarities and differences.
