Marimba Festival
Marimba Festival
On Saturday, 6 July, Thornhill school hosted eight schools from Gaborone in the annual Thornhill Marimba Festival. The participating schools were; Baobab, Botlhale, Gaborone International School, The Learning Centre, Legae, Northside, Rainbow and Westwood schools. The day started off with us being put into four groups of 30, with all the children from all the different schools. We went on to participate in the instrumental workshops including Dancing, Mbira, Drumming and Mass Marimbas. This opened a pathway to new friendships.
The festival concert started out with a combined dance that we all learned during the course of the day and loved doing. Thereafter; each school went on to showcase some of their own marimba pieces and everyone played beautifully. The night closed off with a dance from the teachers, this put a smile on everyone’s faces. Being able to experience such an amazing time was truly wonderful. Thank you to Mr Kamwi and the music department for putting everything together and to our parents for always supporting us.
