Std 3 Recorder Workshop

The Music Department had its annual Std 3 recorder workshop, which took place from 5 February to 7 February. It was 3 days of fun for the children and the parents. The objective of the workshop was to highlight the importance of recorder playing. Some selected Std 6 and 7 pupils came on board to demonstrate their skills and to inspire their juniors.

On the last day of the workshop, parents and their children displayed what they had learnt over the three days. The mass recorder playing sounded great, all the squeaky notes were suddenly fixed. Even the parents played a tune and entertained us with some drumming.

Here is what some children had to say about the workshop:

‘We learnt so much over the three days. We even had some Std 6 and Std 7 children who were helping us. I think our parents had fun too. They even got to play the recorder. We ended off with a little concert where we got to play all the songs we learnt.’ Riley Gibson 3H.

‘My favourite thing about the music workshop was working with the Std 6 and 7 children and the drumming. My favourite songs were. ‘B A Dood and B Really Groovy.’ B Groovy was way too easy and I’m still working on the other song (Two at twilight). I’m hoping to play other instruments like the guitar, piano, flute and marimbas.’ Leru Matilo 3J.

‘The recorder workshop was thrilling and exciting, I enjoyed it very much. I liked going to all the Music Teachers. Learning the notes with the parents was fun and having them play and watch us play was the best.’ Teagan Strugnell 3S.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Thornhill Primary School website, filled with information which, we hope, will attract your interest and serve to give a sense of the rich flavour of life at our school.
