Reception visit to the Flower Farm

Recently, the Reception classes went on a very interesting and exciting trip to visit a new Flower Farm in Rasesa. The children loved the bus journey out to the farm and they were all in awe when we arrived at this beautiful green oasis.

After a long drive to the farm, we were ready to have a much needed snack and a drink of water before teacher Kathy took us on an adventure. The classes then split up, and the first group visited the hot houses, where they grow strawberries. They next were shown how fruit trees are grown using drip irrigation and then went on to see the flower beds, where a wonderful assortment of flowers and fruit were growing. We saw beautiful sunflowers, white Lace, cornflowers, blueberries and many other varieties.

They earnt how to plant a sunflower seed in a little container that had been decorated by the children. All the classes then swapped activities and shared the same experiences as the other group. The children were very excited during the trip back to Thornhill talking about their favourite experiences with their friends. This was a wonderful outing for all the children and they were very excited to take their planted seed home at the end of the day.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Thornhill Primary School website, filled with information which, we hope, will attract your interest and serve to give a sense of the rich flavour of life at our school.
